Steve and Phil Web Design new website section layout 2017-05-31T15:58:54+00:00

Hi. I’m Steve.
And that’s my mate Phil on the right.
We make great websites.

We could have called ourselves Pink Goldfish, or Codeblasters, or {dev.css}.

But we didn’t. That’s because we’ve come across so many outfits with fancy names and smiling account execs, who will happily take your money and then farm out the work to anonymous grafters in Bulgaria or India, who you’ll never actually get the chance to talk to.

If you want to get anything changed, you’ll have to go through Mr Smiley first.

When you hire Steve and Phil to design your website, then that’s who you get.

Steve helps you work out what you want to say, creates the look that will best get your message across, and designs the websites.

Phil does the back end. He’ll make your website behave itself, on every platform, on every device.

That’s the team. Steve and Phil. No receptionist, no interns, no child labour. If you want to talk to us, email or pick up the phone. You can speak to Steve, or you can speak to Phil.

Silixa

Silixa is an international company which provides fibre optic monitoring solutions to the oil and gas exploration industries, with bases in London and Texas.

Silixa’s website is designed to educate visitors about their products and services through the use of animation and information.

Oman et la Mer

Oman et la Mer was an exhibition about Oman’s maritime history, which was held at the Musée Maritime in Paris in 2013-14.

The site is available in English, French and Arabic, with all the complications that the right-to-left reading language entails.

BDD Foundation

The BDD Foundation is a charity providing help and advice to those suffering from Body Dysmorphic Disorder – the perception of oneself as ugly.

The website was designed to be friendly and welcoming, while still providing hard-hitting information about this debilitating and serious condition.

Mildenhall Museum is a small but highly respected local museum in the Suffolk market town whose name it bears.

This major overhaul of the museum’s website provided responsiveness on mobile platforms, while allowing museum staff to make changes on a regular basis.

Tony Noble is a production designer who has worked with directors including Roman Polanski, Robert de Niro and Jason LaMotte.

The spectacular quality of the publicity images for his movies makes his website a highly visual, dramatic experience for the viewer.

Jo-Ann MacNeil is an award-winning designer who has headed the makeup department on movies including Pompeii, Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, and Resident Evil 5.

Frequently updated to include her latest projects, Jo-Ann’s website serves as her online introduction to the Hollywood filmmaking community.

Website hosting

As well as designing your website we can also host and maintain it. Working with a small premium quality hosting provider and industry leading Internet security experts, we provide fast, secure hosting tailored to your needs.

To guard against the increasing threat of malware and website hacking, our sites are hosted behind a firewall and software is actively monitored and updated. Edge server caching and load balancing ensure optimum load time performance.

We have Service Level Agreements with our hosting partners guaranteeing 99.9% uptime.

About us

Steve Caplin likes making things.

He has spent 15 years creating satirical illustrations for newspapers including The GuardianThe Sunday TelegraphThe Independent and The Sunday Times, as well as producing cover illustrations for Business WeekRadio TimesReaders’ Digest among many others. He is the author of over a dozen books, including the How to Cheat in Photoshop series and the Amazon #1 bestseller Dad Stuff.

Steve’s first computer was a Sinclair Spectrum he bought in 1982, when he eschewed the 16K version and opted for the 48K model because it was future-proof. He has since owned enough Macs to keep Apple in profit.

When he’s not at his desk Steve makes improbable sculptures and furniture. He plays the piano and accordion, although unlike Phil his only public appearances involved a now forgotten new wave band in the 1980s and several performances playing the music for silent films.

Steve likes Bill Viola, Paris and Timothy Taylor ale.

Phil Nicholl needs to know how things work.

He first experienced the joy of computing playing Asteroids with a future astronaut on the mainframe at Cambridge University in the mid 70s. From there he progressed to programming music on a Yamaha CX5M, then an Atari 1040ST and finally a sequence of Apple Macs – over three decades – from an SE30 to a Macbook Air.

Phil was using email on closed networks before the internet reached the UK, and built his first website over twenty years ago.

In his spare time he has won the Eurovision Song Contest with Katrina and the Waves, and as a session musician has sung and performed with, among others, Lionel Richie, Cliff Richard, Andy Williams and Spizzenergi. He wrote a multi-platinum song performed by Anita Baker, as well as over 300 radio and television jingles.

Phil likes Donald Fagen, Marseilles and Belgian beer.
